History:

The Vorta were forest dwellers in the days before the Dominion, being small, timid and apelike, living in hollowed out trees and living in constant fear of various predators on their planet. They achieved their current position in the Dominion due to a Vorta family that saved an injured Changeling, and the Changeling didn't forgot that debt

Since that time, the resourceful Vorta have become an important part of the Dominion. They now form the link between the Founders and the other races of the Dominion, and are primarily involved in administrative tasks.

Until the existence of the Founders was revealed, the Federation believed the Vorta to be the leaders of their new enemies

The Dominion is ruled by shapeshifting 'Changelings' known as the Founders, managed and administered by the Vorta, a telekinetic humanoid race, and defended by genetically-engineered soldiers, the Jem'Hadar

Often, important Vorta are cloned several times, so that if one dies, there is always a "backup".
