VIRTUAL REALITY TARGETING SYSTEM
Name: |
Virtual Reality Targeting System |
Location: |
Utopia Planitia Starfleet Yards, Mars |
Project Co-ordinator: |
Sub Lt Drax |
Project Number: |
PN-VRTS-XN-DDTD |
Completion Date: |
49902.27 |
Project Engineers: |
Lt Cmdr Boh |
Rationale for Design: |
Based on the fact that the hull integrity of KDL vessels were incredibly powerful, it was surmised that standard phaser fire and torpedoes had limited effects given recent battles with them. |
As a result, it was proposed that instead of firing in standard patterns something was needed that would allow for improved accuracy of targeting KDL vessels. Something that would allow almost precision fire to ensure that the same area of the hull was damaged in order to cause a breach or destroy the vessels depending on the area targeted. |
|
A VR interface unit was suggested that would allow the TAC officer improved control of both torpedoes and phasers. |
|
Guidance nodules were implanted into torpedoes to allow the TAC officer to guide them as they moved through space using the VR interface. A similar design was used on the phasers to allow for improved targeting accuracy. |
|
Strengths: |
Improved accuracy of firing and targeting systems |
Increased possibility of damaging consistent areas of the hull |
|
Increased reaction time of weapons systems |
|
Limitations: |
|
Side Effects: |
Due to interface of VR and real time there is a momentary time placement experienced by the user resulting in momentary dizziness |
Life signs become unstable until the point where system interface must be terminated leaving the operator fatigued |
|
Headaches |
|
Other: |
Control nodules on torpedoes must be re-calibrated before each use requiring an engineer to be present in the torpedo bay to calibrate the nodules |
Limited time use based on life signs (user must be monitored at all times |
